Meet Apollo and Ava. Apollo steals things for a living. His website is literally www.istealstuff.com. He stole a watch from my stepdad right off of his wrist at our wedding reception. He’s best known for stealing confidential and personal items from one of President Jimmy Carter’s secret service guys. Yet, the guy is an amazingly kind, gentle, and, I’ll admit, actually a little bit of a scary person to be around. I can’t help but think that his gentleness is just a ploy to get me close so he can steal something from me (though he never has since I’ve known him). So when he and his wife, Ava, asked Kim Le and I to shoot an anniversary session for them in their home town of Vegas, we jumped at the opportunity to explore the strip with two of the city’s most well known magicians.
Apollo and Ava’s anniversary session started off at the Cosmopolitan, where they got us a sweet suite to shoot in. The view over the strip was amazing from the wraparound balcony, the furniture is super chic, and the room is as big as a house. A fun place to start, for sure. After some photos in the hotel, we ventured outside to chase the light and find a sunset. Afterwards, we came back to the hotel/strip and finished off the session with some sexy night time photos above the strip.

Our time spent with Apollo and Ava were both enlightening and entertaining. We learned a few things about the “dark” side of Vegas – stories of magicians, con artists, gambling tricks, etc., while also enjoying the company of two incredibly smart, inspiring, and creative people. For us, it’s always nice to meet other creatives and talk shop, life, and business. We find that our lives are similarly modeled with other creatives – our priorities, thought patterns, and even business mechanics are woven with the same thread. Apollo and Ava’s list of accomplishments are impressive (TED, GMA, CIA, Leverage, BrainGames, etc.), but their down to earth and unassuming personalities would never give that away. Truly a one of a kind couple, we’re fortunate to know them as clients and more importantly, friends.
P.S. I can’t say that nothing was stolen from us…before we left (and after some heavy convincing), Apollo and Ava displayed a little of their magic for us. Ava is a mentalist and without trying to explain what she does, I’ll just tell you that she read off my credit card number to me while I held it in my hand with my back to her. To say our minds were blown is an understatement. Don’t worry, there haven’t been any mysterious charges…yet! 😉
