Johnny & Michael – The Victorian Santa Monica

CALIFORNIA WEDDING

Johnny and Michael are two of the kindest, most genuine, and loving people Kim Le and I have EVER met. Michael goes out of his way to show gratitude and Johnny’s thoughtful nature left us missing their presence after both their engagement and wedding day. Even on their wedding day, they constantly checked on us, making sure we had food, drink, and anything else we wanted. It’s such an honor and joy to work with couples who are so down to earth and just plain kind hearted.

One of my favorite photographs is from their engagement session on a Santa Monica boardwalk at sunset. Since the wedding took place 2 blocks from a similar boardwalk on the beach, this shot was on my mind since the night before. I didn’t know if it would work, or if I could get them to leave their guests for 30 minutes, but I couldn’t stop thinking how this shot would be a satisfying finale to their story (at least to me). Time didn’t permit us to do this during the reception, but I decided I couldn’t leave without attempting this photo.

We got to the beach and upon reaching the boardwalk, we noticed a family hanging out on the bench. I told Johnny and Michael we could just set up in front of the family and settle for a similar shot. As soon as we got close, the family packed up and left, leaving it to us at the perfect time. As I shot, I couldn’t help but enjoy the peacefulness of the beach and just how much in love Johnny and Michael were. These are the times I feel most grateful to get to do this for a living.
