Andrew and I had the privilege to photograph the wedding for two of the most interesting people we’ve ever met back in October. Michelle and Joseph (from their engagement post) are both designers for Gensler, a leading design and artchitecture firm in Houston. So, first off, you know these people are into design and lookin’ nice. When I received their contract, I could also tell that they had a sense of style about them already just by looking at their handwriting. It’s the all-caps/small-caps handwriting with smooth, straight lines written in all black roller ink….the type of handwriting I’ve always wanted to have for my own right hand. Michelle is also from South Africa so she and her friends/family would be speaking Afrikaans to each other throughout the day. What was interesting is the tone of her voice wouldn’t change between English and Afrikaans. (Just think how when Asians start speaking in their native tongue, they sound angry when we’re really not…honestly.)
Though they live in Houston, they decided to get married in Austin, where they met, and chose one of the most beautifully simple locations we’ve shot at to date: Mercury Hall. This place is perfect for afternoon outdoor weddings because it’s tucked away from the city by tall, lucious trees and gorgeous green grass. The afternoon light coming through the trees is ridiculously golden and looks like it came straight out of a movie. Michelle, Joseph: thank you so much for having us at your wedding. It was perfect.
